Nurofen Cold and Flu is designed to target the multiple symptoms of a heavy cold or flu. It combines the anti-inflammatory power of Ibuprofen to tackle headaches, sore throats, and fever, with a potent decongestant, Pseudoephedrine. This combination works by reducing the production of pain-causing chemicals and constricting swollen blood vessels in the nasal passages. This helps to clear a blocked nose and relieve the pressure often felt in the sinuses. Because it contains a strong decongestant, it is highly effective for "head cold" symptoms but requires a pharmacist's consultation due to its impact on blood pressure and heart rate.
Key Features
Dual Relief: Manages both systemic symptoms (aches/fever) and localized congestion (blocked nose/sinuses).
Non-Drowsy: Formulated to provide relief without causing sleepiness during the day.
Rapid Action: Film-coated tablets are designed for easy swallowing and quick onset of action.
Pharmacy Only (P): This is a restricted medicine in Ireland, requiring a pharmacist's check to ensure it is safe for your specific health profile.
Key Ingredients
Ibuprofen (200mg): A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces pain and fever.
Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride (30mg): A powerful decongestant that shrinks swollen nasal membranes to clear air passages.
How to Take
Adults and Children 12+ Years: Take 1 or 2 tablets with water.
Frequency: If necessary, take 1 or 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours.
Maximum Dose: Do not exceed 6 tablets in any 24-hour period.
Duration: Consult a doctor if symptoms persist for more than 3 days.
What Medicines NOT to Take Do not take Nurofen Cold and Flu if you are taking:
Other NSAIDs: Such as Aspirin (above 75mg), Naproxen, or other Ibuprofen products.
Other Decongestants: Do not combine with other oral cold remedies or nasal sprays (e.g., Sudafed or Otrivine).
MAOIs: Antidepressants known as Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (or if you have taken them in the last 14 days).
Blood Pressure/Heart Meds: Specifically Beta-blockers, as pseudoephedrine can interfere with their effectiveness.
