Arret 2mg Hard Capsules are an effective, pharmacy-only treatment designed for the symptomatic relief of acute (short-term) diarrhea. The active ingredient, loperamide hydrochloride, works directly on the muscles of your digestive tract. When you suffer an attack of diarrhea, your bowel becomes overactive, contracting too frequently and pushing food and liquid through your system before your body can absorb them properly.

Arret calms this muscle hyperactivity, slowing down intestinal transit. This essential slowing action gives your body the time it needs to absorb fluids and crucial salts back into the system from the bowel. As a result, stools become firmer, the frequency of bowel movements decreases, and your body is protected against excessive fluid loss.

Key Ingredients

• Capsule Shell: Gelatin, titanium dioxide (E171), black ferrous oxide (E172), red ferric oxide (E172), yellow ferric oxide (E172), and erythrosine sodium.

Dietary Warning: This product contains lactose monohydrate. If you have a known intolerance or sensitivity to certain sugars, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication.

How to Take

Swallow the capsules whole with a full glass of water. Do not open or chew the capsules.

Dosage for Adults and Children (Aged 12 Years and Over)

Important Hydration Reminder: Arret only treats the physical symptoms of diarrhea, not the underlying cause. Diarrhea causes your body to lose a significant amount of water and essential minerals. This medicine should always be used alongside oral rehydration therapy (hydration sachets) to replace lost fluids. If symptoms last longer than 24 hours, stop taking this medication and seek medical advice.

Contraindications: Who Should Not Take It?

Do not take Arret 2mg Capsules if you are experiencing or have any of the following conditions:

• Age Limit: Children under 12 years of age.

• Antibiotic-Induced Colitis: Severe, watery, or persistent diarrhea that developed after or during a course of broad-spectrum antibiotics (Pseudomembranous colitis).

• Bacterial Infections: Diarrhea caused by invasive bacterial organisms such as Salmonella, Shigella, or Campylobacter.

• Dysentery Flare-Ups: Acute dysentery, which presents with blood or mucus in your stools and a high body temperature.

• Inflammatory Bowel Disease: If you are having an active flare-up of acute ulcerative colitis.

• Constipation or Bloating: If you are already constipated, or if your stomach feels tight, painful, or visibly swollen (abdominal distension). Peristalsis (bowel movement) must not be inhibited if there is a risk of severe complications like a blocked bowel.

3. Click and collect option is available from our brick and mortar shop which is free of charge. The shop is located at Walsh’s Pharmacy, Oranmore, Galway, H91 XF51. Customers can purchase their items online and collect in store. If you do not wish to enter the shop when you are collecting, you can park outside and we will bring your order to your car. You can call us at 091-702800 when you arrive. 

Orders are processed Mondays through Fridays and deliveries usually ship within one working day after you receive your confirmation. The deliveries are facilitated by An Post. 

There are no hidden fees or charges associated with any orders. We promise to be up-front with all delivery charges which may be associated with items you order. We only ship within Ireland so there are no import fees or customs to worry about.
